A zip awning (toldo zip in Spanish) is a motorised external blind in which the fabric edges are guided by side rails using a zip-track mechanism. The zip locks the fabric into the side channels, preventing it from flapping or billowing in the wind — unlike traditional awnings, which must be retracted in winds above 40–50 km/h.
Because the fabric is held under tension on all four sides, zip awnings can remain deployed in winds up to 120 km/h when using the correct fabric specification and track system. This wind resistance makes them the preferred choice for exposed coastal properties in Marbella, Estepona, and along the Costa del Sol, where the Levante and Poniente winds can be strong and unpredictable.

Why Sotogrande Residents Choose Costa Glass
Sotogrande is one of the most exclusive residential areas in southern Spain, known for polo, golf (Valderrama), and its marina. The international community here — British, German, Spanish, and American — invest significantly in their outdoor spaces, making it a key market for premium terrace products.
The local climate — characterised by a breezy Atlantic-influenced climate slightly different from the Costa del Sol, with the Levante wind particularly strong — making wind protection a priority for terrace installations — makes quality terrace products an investment rather than a luxury. A well-installed zip awning system extends your outdoor season from the traditional summer months to a full twelve months of usable, comfortable outdoor space.
As direct manufacturers based in Estepona — just a short drive from Sotogrande — Costa Glass eliminates the middleman and passes those cost savings directly to you. Every system is measured on-site, fabricated at our factory, and installed by our own technical team. There are no subcontractors and no split responsibilities.
